The powers of the National Assembly to make laws, carry out oversight and represent its citizens is very well outlined in the constitution. To this end:

  1. The Senate will invoke its constitutionally given powers to ensure that laws are made for the good of citizens and existing laws reviewed to bring them in conformity with modern day realities. It shall be the purpose of the senate to represent the interest of citizens accordingly. The primary purpose of the Senate will be to act and make laws in the best interest of the people of Nigeria. Existing laws will be brought in conformity with citizens’ expectations and in line with democratic norms.
  2. The Senate’s power to oversight the implementation of laws and the activities of ministries, departments and agencies of government will be effectively used to ensure adequate representation of citizens’ interest.
  3. Oversight will be carried out to ensure that budgets of the National Assembly are duly implemented. Persons who violate this implementation will be brought to account
