Strat.1 "1. The Senate is considering amendments to the Police Act 2020 and passed motions directing improved welfare and training for police officers to reduce misconduct, establishment of effective internal control and public complaint mechanisms within the police force.
2. Additionally, Senators have also called for independent investigations of alleged extrajudicial killings and human rights abuses by police officers. 3. Report of the Committee on Police Affairs: Nigeria Police University of Science and Technology Erinja, Ogun State (Establishment) Bill, 2025 (SB. 750) Sen. On 28th April 2026, the Senate passed for Second reading the The Nigeria Police Trust Fund (Establishment) Bill, 2026 (SB. 1030), passed its second reading. The bill was sponsored by Sen. Bamidele, Michael Opeyemi (https://punchng.com/senate-passes-police-trust-fund-bill-for-second-reading/). 5. Another legislation aimed to reform the police is the Bill for an Act to Alter the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to Provide for the Establishment of State Police and for Related Matters (Sixth Alteration) Bill, 2026."
